My back is so stiff I can barely move, and I was miserable all night. I am using a friend's guest room that she is very proud of, and I'd rather not tell her that the futon is so horrible I can't sleep on it. But, I can't sleep on it.

well it just needs getting used to...and once u do, a soft mattress would make ur back stiffer than it is now! but i think ur friend should really have asked u first if u r comfortable sleeping one one.

It takes practice. If there is a comforter on the bed, fold it double and sleep on it for extra cushioning, and as a thank you gift, I suggest you buy her a bed topper she can roll up behind the futon when its not in use. Simply tell her you are more used to a softer bed, and that other people may be as well. I'm sure she will understand.

I prefer a futon. It should be 8 or 10 inches thick. We gat a bed but still use the futon on it.

I had a futon for many years and never had any problem. Maybe it is your back and not the futon that is causing you the trouble.

well if you're only there for a short period of time, i guess you'd just have to bear with it. afterall, beggars can't be choosers. Or, you could drape the futon over a couch and maybe it'd feel better.

I never tried one but I think I'd prefer a sleeping bag on the floor.
