Try booting to the cdrom/DVD drive. You dont say what OS you are using and you dont say what your bios settings are but most newer laptops will boot CD first. If you are using xp just put the CD in the disc drive and restart your computer and do a full install. This will wipe(reformat) the drive for all intents and purposes but if you are trying to get rid of all data you will need to do a low level format using something like derek's boot and nuke(DBAN) then reinstall your OS as outlined above. You can download DBAN here http://dban.sourceforge.net/ . You have the option of cd iso image or floppy download. If this doesn't work you could alway buy an external floppy drive or a USB drive if your computer is new enough to boot from usb devices.

Should boot from cdrom drive. Use your installation cd or recover cd that came with your laptop. If you don't have that then use XP cd, should boot up from cdrom and step through the questions. Now with XP cd you will have to go to the manufacture web site of the laptop and get the proper drivers for all the devices on your laptop. Support should work in the web site of the manufacture. The recovery cd usually would do this for you.

reformat it and intall the operating system using your Windows disk. if you did not receive one, contact the notebook manufacturer to request them.

There was a class action lawsuite against a lot of the mfr's for not giving the disks out, so i think you might have them.

Just boot off the cd, and you're set. Remember to back up all your information, reformating delete everything.

I'm assuming your are reformatting to reinstall your operating system. Windows XP offers reformatting as an option when reinstalling. Also you may go to http://ebcd.pcministry.com/ and download the iso for the emergency boot cd and burn yourself a copy.
