When i use ls in a shell program i do not get color for folders. why?

i was using red hat 7.2 and i am not sure about the shell

1st tell me that about which shell u r talking.

assuming you have choosen the default settings you are probably using bash, try "ls --color"

BTW: Red Hat 7.2 is a really old release, why not try a newer release ?
