We can't "exert" the kind of influence for peace that we're engaged in over in Iraq. You're right, we should be a role model for peace in the world. We need to get back on that track but our political leaders have to buy into it as well. Our foreign relations are a shambles and until we gain some respect back in that department it's going to be a long road.

Because the extremists are the ones who keep starting wars. World Peace would require that disputes end. All the people who have the potential to become extremist leaders would have to be eliminated which would leave no one.

Not so simple.Problem arises basically due to causes such as ignorance ,poverty ,ill-health,exploitation of the weak by the state. We have to remedy all these serious problems needing lot of resources.Who will foot the bill? Each country is struggling with its own problems. Most of all the 57 Islamic nations are reeking in poverty ignorance and mind set dating back to 7th century. The young are gullible and are indoctrinated by Mullahs to go and kill themselves and kill many more in the bargain. I do not see this problem getting resolved for another 1/2 a millennium.

I don't think understand the concept of peace and that you have a misperception of what people want. If you ask people, they will say they want peace... but almost always at the expense (or annihilation) of their enemies. Ask a Palastinian if he wants peace; he will say yes, but only if Isreal is destroyed. Vice versa with Isreal toward Palestine.

Here in America, perhaps you want peace... but at what expense? Osama Bin Laden going free? Terrorism elsewhere?

World Peace is a joke and a pipedream. We can only do as best we can. So long as religion exists, peace is unattainable.

There are those among us that truly wish for peace in the world. Unfortunately for a majority of us, corporate greed and individual selfishness overshadows that. I'm with you though The older I get though, the more it seems as if its just pipe dream...

Because the fact remains... Peace can only be obtained at the business end of a gun. The people (extremist) will not willingly lay their weapons down.

Example... You want to cut down a tree. 100 people hug it. It will not fall, until someone produces a chainsaw.

Different definitions of peace.

Peace generally means "I can get along with you and you can get along with me."

What ruins it is that everyone's beliefs are so different (even within your own family) that peace isn't possible as long as we judge, condemn or condone certain things and not others.

What would happen if we didn't judge, condemn or condone? Someone would blow us up because we didn't use our heads to realize some things ARE bad.

Because self preservation, greed and power win over compassion and peace in the majority of the world's leaders. The question should be, why are the good, honest compassionate people of the planet not ousting/impeaching said leaders?

Good question....

The reason for this is that everyone is tooinvolved with their problems and so tend to seem unpleasant and unsocial. So, in order to spread peace.... we need to show and teach it by practicing to each other and therefore, peace will spread by willing individuals.

Peace makes less money than war.

War has far less to do with religion than it has to do with those profiting from war. Ie: the makers of war machines and weaponry and defense systems and all manner of things I'm sure I'm not thinking of since this is just off the top of my head.

It all comes down to who is making money from war. The end of war would mean the end of a lot of businesses and a lot of jobs and that scares people. It's not right, but it scares people because that means it personally affects them, not just some people in some foreign country who they will never know.
