Oh yeah. In the respect that their heart and soul is into the flow of the music. Notes can be duplicated, but the music can touch the soul, the core of people. Make you breath more slowly or even raise the hairs on your arms, or produce butterflies in the stomach. Even change your mood...great music does this.

Yes, I agree. Improvisation is a skill that goes beyond mere performance. A true jazz musician is essentially creating a new piece of music each time he plays.
