I absolutely love these kinds of books. I read alot of John Lescroart books and they are just amazing. I can never put the book down but Ive read pretty much every book he put out. I need to find some new authors just as good.

Authors:
Jeffrey Deaver
Carol O'Connell - incredible characters, one of my all-time favorites
Michael Connelly
Ruth Rendell
Minette Walters
J.D. Robb (although you get a bit sick of the characters after a while, she writes very convincing romance)

A really good murder mystery and that is true is the story of Henry Holmes in Chicago during the 1980s. There might be a novel about this person, but if you can't locate a books on him, you can definitely find a true story about his life. He lived and worked in a place called Murder Castle, of which was his own creation.

A kiss before dying by Ira Levin. There is a film based on that book with the actress Sean Young.

I would recommend Jeffrey Deaver, which is murder mystery plus forensics (think Bone Collector.)

Also, Michael Connelly, which is murder mystery plus police detectives in LA (such as Blood Work.)
