I am a hammer thrower and I always grunt at the point of release. I think it is for two main reasons:-
a. It focuses my anger and testosterone (obviously this does not count with women) into a single moment when I release all my energy, therefore throwing further or, in tennis, hitting harder
b. When doing any sort of exercise, you should always inhale at the least strenuous point and exhale at the most strenuous part and in tennis, the most strenuous part is hitting the ball so that is when you should exhale. Often you are focusing so hard at this point that your actions, such as breathing, are exaggerated.

Hello, A good tennis player can win under any circumstance. They may be having a bad day on the court or off, they might be playing an opponent who hits shots they are uncomfortable with, or any other example. A good tennis player can adapt to any situation. Also, when you are struggling to get the ball over the net there are two things that I recommend you do. First, make sure you are taking full swings at the ball and not trying to "push" the ball over with your racquet or swinging too hard to get it over the net. You must take normal, full swings without hesitation to maintain consistency. Also, move your mental target of where you want to hit the ball higher over the net. This will give you more room for error. Enjoy!

I think its just cuz they need alot of precision and power to hit the ball, and cuz they put their whole body´s strength into the swing, i think its just like a reaction noise, you know like anyone would make lifting somethin really heavy. If you concentrate on not making that noise, you probably could, but you just dont think about it much while lifting, or in this case playing.

Please keep in mind that the people playing at a professional level are so far beyond the skill level you were dealing with as a student that their game is radically different. The level of exertion and stress generated by these atheletes is staggering, and after a 3-hour match can be nothing short of gruelling.
So yes, I can see why they'd grunt and groan.
