I read an article by Leonard PItts Jr. today, claiming 500 Muslims died in 9/11? How can that be? There were only 3,000 total 9/11 casualties? And there's no way Muslims make up one in six New Yorkers. Does anyone have an explanation?

Supposedly that was the count that Colin Powell said once in a speech.

I know it seems like a lot but I when you think about the fact that NYC has a very large muslim population then I guess it might be possible. Although, I tend not to believe it because the muslim community is not located anywhere near the world trade center.

Colin Powell was probably just blowing hot air as usual.

I really appreciated your inclusion of the link to the Leonard Pitts article. In it, he referred to a speech that former Secretary of State Colin Powell gave using the estimate of 500 Muslims killed on 9/11.

The number does seem high. We do know that a great number of those killed were janitorial and kitchen help people. I know many inner-city black people who are Muslim, and many immigrants in low-paid positions came from the Middle East and Southeast Asia. I think in New York it is a higher percentage than here in Middle America.

But, I certainly would like to see the basis for Colin Powell's remarks.

Good question - thank you for posting it.

The following is the logistics of the rentable space available at the WTC pre 9/11. I have also listed a directory of the company's that leased space from the Port Authority. It was the "WORLD" trade center, the name speaks for its self. Anyway research the JIHAD, those 500 muslims were war time martyrs.

About 10,000,000 square feet of rentable space, occupied by about 50,000 people.

An acre of rentable space on each floor of each tower.
(Gross area of 43200 square feet (4020 square meters) each per floor.)
Owned and operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The world's tallest building for a short time, taking over from the Empire State Building, and then surpassed by the Sears Tower.

Not 1/6 of total New Yorkers. But mayble 1/6 of those who happened to be casualties out of the tens of thousand in the area.

I was always under the impression that America took all and everyone into its bosom,so there could have been Muslims caught up in the 9/11 disaster, the same as there were all creeds and colours caught up in the 7/7 attack in London,Why do you ask?

Pitts did not cross reference the VP's quote. But it would not surprise me. Muslims are very active in our financial market and many of our military staff. I just remember a news report of how many victims were here on visa's and I was surprised then.
Remember in the past few weeks I heard 3000 muslims died in Iraqi.

That article doesn't say it WAS 500...it just says that Colin Powell 'once put it at 500' in a speech. That doesn't sound like any official count.
