Is it better to stew or steam them.

Or do you have another way of preparing them that worked even better. I'd like to keep as much of the flavour and vitamins as possible.

Traditional stewed plums are a great way to get babies enough iron and they prevent constipation. One reason to prepare them this way is that they can be bottled for future use.

You can also make plum jam and add one teaspoon to 4 teaspoons of baby cereal.

Steamed plums need to be eaten shortly after cooking, but I think they would make a tasty treat after you harvest your own trees.

The BEST item to use for that is the BeBe Sounds Baby Food Preparer. I used it with both of my kids. It is cheap, easy to use and will prepare anything from corn, peas, plums, apples to meats.

I would bake them. Careful though, plums are kind of tart. I bought jarred plums and my daughter makes a sour face if I feed them to her (though she does keep eating them anyway). You CAN steam them as well.

Depending on the age of your baby (over 8 months) you can mush them up raw, but they'd be REALLY tart then. Baking them makes them sweeter, and you can always remove the peels to make them even sweeter.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO DO EITHER. CUT PLUMS IN HALF. REMOVE THE SEED. PUT INTO BLENDER UNTIL YOU RECEIVE THE TEXTURE YOU WANT. YOU CAN BLEND THE SKIN ALSO IF YOU WANT.
