Photography was the first literal visual presentation. Before that Art was interpretive. With photography people could see events as if they were there. Early Photographers such as E.S. Curtus showed the world the life of the American Indians. A.S. Dudley captured the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. This sort of depiction aroused the emotions of society and developed our social conscience.
