Laziness mainly, and perhaps incapacity in formulating their request in such a way that search engines could return meaningful answer with the first hits (which could also be intellectual laziness, in actual fact).

For some it may be an issue of convenience, for others possibly curiosity about what type of answers they will receive.

I spent a day humming the melody of a song to friends & family, cause I couldn't remember any of the lyrics...after getting some of their possible lyrics, I spent an hour online running searches with no luck...finally resorted to asking here & had the correct answer, in less than 3 minutes.

It's kind of like getting to poll the audience on the t.v. show "who want's to be a millionaire?".

i also asked that question to myself before.. but after a lot of time browsing through the Qs and As.. it's just that sometimes.. i think.. some precise answers aren't really that at all precise when people answer it with a little tinge of experience and opinion.. it kind of helps with the point of view thing..

spontaneous reactions of different people to different questions..............u get to know people better rather than information which U can get through websites as U said....
