It actually wasn't "invented" for the movie but taken from an older kung fu film... King Boxer: Five Fingers of Death. Tarantino used a lot of stuff from old kung fu films and the exploding palm technique was just one of them. He got the music that plays when The Bride is pissed off and they focus in on her (wee, woo, wee, woo -as good as I can explain it) from the same movie. While there is no actual move of the same name there are stories of some martial artists being able to kill a man with one finger. They have to hit the exact right spot with the exact amount of pressure.
