One measures success against a criterion of have I given my best at all times. Have I made the best out of what I was given. Under difficult circumstances did I manage to survive?
Everyone has a different path, with different beginnings and different endings. Some start life with an expected future, and so are stuck in that line like a train. Others, have more freedom of choice in their life and the choices they make are less important than the effort they put in once the decision has been taken.
Personal success, is therefore not measured against your neighbour or your siblings. You cannot compete with the government in business, and so your business fails. You are not a failure, you have demonstrated a point and survived.
Survival and happiness, are the biggest success factors which are universal throughout every person regardless of what they are born into, who helps them get where they got, and what obstacles they had to overcome.
If you are still alive and happy, then you are currently succeeding!

By how I feel inside - am I content? Calm? At ease?
Not by material things.
Be careful that you don't confuse what the media and society define success as - because this isn't really success, it won't make you happy it will just improve your image...but on its own it is nothing.
I'm doing very well in my career and get paid a lot of money - this doesn't make me successful - it is just a small part of my life.
I wouldn't worry about quitting my job tomorrow and going to live with a tribe in a rain-forest if I felt it would help me grow inside.
....Now you've got me thinking....I wonder how my boss will take the news?

I think success would be leaving this world a better place than before you were here. And leaving a legacy for your family to be proud of.My grandfather told me we are here to help one another. He helped people all his life. He became a lawyer at age 39 and he was practicing law for over 50 years. He didn't get rich with money, coz he helped a lot of unwealthy people for free or with barter. But he died at age 97 a happy and beloved man.
That is success.

Success for myself means that I've achieved my goals and even when I have not achieved something completely if I know I did my very best I know I was successful. Also you know when you've achieved success when you reached a level of contempt of who you are and you feel happy about the place you are in life.

To laugh often and much
to win the respect of intelligent people
and affection of children; to earn the
appreciation of honest critics and
endure the betrayal of false friends;
to appreciate beauty, to find the best
in others; to leave the world a bit
better, whether by a healthy child
a garden patch or redeemed
social condition; to know even
one life has breathed easier because
you have lived. This is to have
succeeded.

I measure my success by the number of people who love me & that I love in return, how content I am with my life & the way my only son has grown up.
Nothing else really matters.

i measure it in terms of happiness. a person leading a sucessfull life should be happy. full stop.
Being successfull in your career however is very different. People have a tendancy to substitute happiness for money to become high flyers or sucessfull business men/woman.
So i guess sucess could be rated on wether you have achieved what you want in life, it's different for everyone.
core. that really got me thinking

I think one should be happy in whatever goals you set. Success doesn't mean that you have to be rich. Just achieve the goals you set in life.

Any achievements that meets your expectation and satisfactory even some of those are perceived negative by society or against the common law rights.

I don't. Its one of the world's biggest hypes. "Success" is who one is inside, and that can't really be measured, I suppose, except by demonstrating care for others unselfishly...and by not blowing your own horn.
