A hypothesis is just a scientific idea that is to be tested in an experiment. For example, If i do not water my plants, they will die, or, If I do not provide enough sunlight to my plants they will die. Obvioulsy we know that it is a scientific fact that plants need water and sunlight to survive, however if you were actually to conduct this experiment, it would still be considered a hypothesis.

H3: the parking lot at my church has more cars with local license plates than out-of-state license plates

H4: Christine Aguilera is not any more popular among 10th grade girls than Madonna.

Here are two hypotheses...

If I drive 100 m.p.h. then I will get a speeding ticket.

If I drive 200 m.p.h. then the police will not be able to catch me.

(I don't recommend testing either hypothesis.)
