Sadly, Steve Irwin was a goner the minute the stingray's barb hit a major bloodflow area (in this case, his heart). Stingray venom is toxic enough as it is, and can cause severe reactions when injected into the skin; when injected into the heart, however, he was doomed from that point onward, I fear.
Yes, the barb pierced his heart, and yes, removing it caused even more damage, but it was a moot point in the end as the barb would have shredded his heart had it remained in place anyway.

Irwin was killed almost instantly when the stingray stabbed him in the heart with its poisonous 20cm barb as he snorkelled off Port Douglas.

I aked my husband why did God take Steve Irwin what did he ever do to anyone? why did he deserve to die? and my husband said that its not what he did to anyone its what hes done for everyone so in the end Steve Irwin went to heaven because God chose to take him it could have been a car wreck it could have been a plane crash it doesnt matter

I think it was a barb to the chest from a stingray. Then again, maybe it was just good timing.

A stingray barb shot hios heart and he was being transported to the hospital by helicopter and he died in the helicopter!!!

the barb from the tail of a string ray. it went through his heart. in most cases if it hits the skin it just induces swelling or something like that. but it went into the heart and direct into blood stream.

a stingray, the barb went into his heart...but then he pulled it out and thats probably what killed him. if he would've left it there until a doc. could get it out he would've had a better chance of living!
