Yes. Song lyrics are a form of poetry, and that is still a very big part of our culture.

It most certainly is. Poetry is considered at the most to be romantic. Romance is still within out culture. Just listen to all the beautiful romantic songs we have in many different varieties of: Soft Rock, Rock & Roll, Country, Blues, Smooth Jazz, These are only a few examples. And There is the poetry that has been around for generations that expresses fear. Take Edgar Allen Poe for instance. His poetry is studied in schools to this day. Rap is also a form of poetry that expresses fear and even hate. I in particular do not care for the fear and hate poetry. I prefer the love poems, romance. I do believe the romantic poetry is here to stay.

Poetry has never had "mass appeal" in any century. At least, in the sense that published books of poetry are seldom, if ever, "best sellers" (unless they're "easy-listening" poetry, the sort that, say, Rod McKuen - see link below - writes.)
But the impulse to write poetry has always been widespread, and these days it's really so, thanks to the Internet, with about 68,300,000 sites to be found on a Google search.
As long as humans feel the need to express their feeling and thoughts, poetry will live - and I suspect that means it will last as long as humanity does.

Yes. There is probably more poetry published now than at any time in history. In addition to what most people regard as 'poetry', you have to add song lyrics, which are also a form of poetry. Although with some some lyrics it is pretty hard to tell....
Most greeting cards also count as poetry, and there are gazillions of them around!

If you want it to be. I think the definition has taken on a contemporary slang. Poetry these days is ripe with cynicism and thought. Think Graffiti or philosophical conversation!
