A Stingray pierced his heart and injected him with venom. They say it was a 'one in a million' chance of happening.....

While filming a movie (the NAME of which I shan't say) out NEAR the Great Barrier Reef, He was trying to Get a shot from the camera that would give the appearance that he was swimming with ( just over or on top of ) a Stingray. Not a tame Stingray but a wild one. The Stingray felt trapped and encroached upon enough to use his own natural defenses; his sting barb at the end of his tail. A very unfortunate " one in a million " occurrence that the usually docile but dangerous Stingray had stuck him in the heart. I loved the Crocodile Hunter's show. He will be sadly missed by millions of people.

I too think that he was a greta man who loved animals. He died doing wht he loved, whihc is always the best way to go.

He was filming a documentry off the coast of Australia, in the Great Barrier Reef. The INvesitgators beleive that the sting ray might have felt closed in, with the camera man on one side, and Steve on the other. The Sting Rays posionres bard (stinger) then peirced through his heart, both giving him posing and damnging his heart. He was able to pull out the bard beofre he fell unconsience.

I wonder if Animal Planet will show any footege of the documenty (not the part that he died on). I think Steve Irwin would like that, do't you?

I HOPE THIS WOULD END SPECULATIONS AND JOKES ON HOW HE DIED !

SYDNEY - He died as he lived - getting up close and personal with dangerous wildlife in front of the camera.

Australia was in a state of shock last night after Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter, was killed by a stingray barb to the chest off north Queensland.

Irwin was struck while filming a sequence for his 8-year-old daughter Bindi's new TV series.

He was pulled unconscious on board his research boat, Croc One, for a 30-minute dash to the Low Isles, where an emergency helicopter had been summoned about 11am.

Crew performed CPR during the voyage, but medical staff pronounced Irwin dead about noon.

Those with him say he was swimming in shallow water, snorkelling, as his cameraman filmed large bull rays.

"He came over the top of a stingray and the stingray's barb went up and went into his chest and put a hole into his heart," said his friend and manager, John Stainton.

"The next thing I heard on the radio was there was a medical emergency, the little dinghy he was in was bringing him back with the crew."

Within hours, Irwin's death was headline news in Australia and on CNN International, Sky and BBC World.

He was filming for a documentary on dangerous animals, but the weather out on the ocean was too bad for filming so near the shore he decided to do a segment for his daughter bindi's new show on stingrays(not normally dangerous!). He was swimming overtop of one when it felt threatened and stung him with one of it's barbs(a small bone like spikey knife) and it pierced his heart. Not only did it hit his heart, but the barbs have poison. He pulled it right away then bled a small amount and passed out, he died on the way to the shore.

specific, in simple terms examine it on CNN a jiffy in the past that he became into killed while a stingray impaled him interior the chest for the duration of the shooting of a documentary. it is unhappy and tragic and my heart is going out to his relatives. He became right into a colourful, quirky flora and fauna educator that made gaining awareness of approximately flora and fauna a relaxing and exciting adventure and he would be sorely overlooked.

the sting ray was between himself and the camera man and felt threatened. sting rays attack very rarely and deaths stemming from those attacks are even less frequent. he swam over the ray and it lunged its barb up into his chest striking his heart and killing him within minutes.
