I am considering building myself a cage for my guinea pig. Is it possible to build a multi-story cage for her that she will actually use? I have heard that she probably wont go up the ramps, but I need to know for sure before I build it.

C&C cages are what you're looking for! They're made out of Vinal wire covered storage cubes that you can find at hardware stores, walmart and even (if you're canadian) Zellers. They're cheap to make and adjust. The insides are lined with stuff called coroplast which you can find at sign stores. You cut it, tape it and clean the entire contraption with half water and half vingegar in a spray bottle. It's supposed to be easier to clean than traditional cages. If you don't have coroplast you can probably use kitty litter pans and/or vinal flooring. I use kitty litter pans and newspaper myself, but I hope to use an old shower curtain at a later date as my cage keeps getting upgraded. When i finally find the room for a decent sized cage I plan on using coroplast.

My guinea pig does use his ramp though not often. If you place treats and stuff on the upper levels your pig(s) should have no problems using the other levels. I made my ramp out of hardware cloth with 1/2 inch squares.

I have a two level rabbit cage. I put a 1x6 across the upper level so the guinea pig wouldn't accidently go over the edge (its a 2nd level loft). My guinea pig spends most her time in the loft away from bunny - unless its feeding time :)

It probably would be curious and go up. Just make sure that there is a lot of running room on the main floor. Horizontal space is more important than vertical space for piggies.

She may. Depends on her personality. Just make sure that the ramps are not too steep or she will injure herself =( good luck

She just might. Doesn't hurt to try. I hope you are handlingl her a lot but she will definitely go stiff if you don't. If you ignore them, they will go really stiff in the joints and die. Sounds like good exercise for her. Good luck.
Love and peace to you
