My wife and I decided to get pregnant. She stopped using the ortho evra patch after two years and we started trying right away. I panicked (I know little about this stuff) and thought that after lying dormant for a while, the ovaries might present several eggs during ovulation. Any thoughts about this or any other things I did not consider?

There are no studies on the subject that I am aware of but even while taking birth control a woman's eggs don't save up to release after stopping birth control. The eggs that would have been ovulated just simply die. Also, the first 2-3 cycles off birth control are often irregular and it can be hard to time ovulation during this time. Best of luck to you and your wife! One other thing, make sure she starts taking prenatal vitamins before getting pregnant.

I used Ortho Evra for 3 years straight, took it off and was pregnant less than a month later. I'm at 23 weeks and there is definitely only ONE baby in there. Her ovaries won't expell several eggs at a time because of the BC, but if any of the females that are genetically related to her on her maternal side of the family have multiples, then she has a higher chance of having them herself. You and your family's history of multiples mean absolutely nothing in the grand scheme or things. Hope that helps! Good luck. =)

The patch has nothing to do with having multiple births. I was on it and I got pregnant and with just one baby. As far as conceiving goes, I just tried this program called the ovulation calender it worked great, I just used the demo. Which is only available for 45 days and I just found out I'm pregnant again so yay! But I would definately try it!

I had heard that the patch was causing major sickness and potential death, but nothing about multiple births. It does take a while for the female system to reboot itself and become fertile again after the long term use of birthcontrol. I would say since it is harder to become pregnant after using birthcontrol, that mulitiple births is just a fluke or genetics and not an effect of the patch.

Nope, the only thing that would cause her to have multiple babies is if she gets into some kind of fertility drug or if it runs in either of your families, otherwise, her ovaries will just release an egg a month.

No, the ovaries will release only one egg at a time after coming off birthcontrol, unless her genes or an unreleated freak occurance say otherwise.

I'm not really sure if it causes multiple births, but I did hear that it can cause death to young women....at least that's what they had said on the news & the papers...so all you girls out there wearing the patch, I would consult with your doctor before wearing it any further.

I actually thought it took slightly longer to even conceive after being on birth control.
But as far as multiple births, I haven't heard anything like that, but you should ask your doctor.
