Labour MP John McDonnell, MP for Hayes and Harlington;
(BBC report, Friday, 8 September 2006, 00:32 GMT 01:32 UK )
"It's not safe in Westminster anymore. There's blood on the carpet all over the place.

"It's like watching an episode of the Sopranos. It's worse, it's like Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. There's an assassin round every corner in Westminster."

Yes it is - a govt that begins in-fighting rarely survives as the electorate quite rightly begin to doubt their credibility and what they stand for - an isuse that has already damaged and beleagured this govt. It doesn't help when you have Brown acting as though he has a "right" to be PM when really it should never have been on a promise...and should always have gone to a democratic vote to ind the right person rather than someone annointed ata restaurant many years ago. The man makes a good chancellor but acts as though he is taking his ball home so noone else can play if they don't pick him for their team...it shows up the shallow nature of this govt and politics in general - that this is not about the country, the people, the policies but rather about spoilt brats and their over heated egotistical belief in their own "legacy"

Nicely put! I think the main point about Blair is that he lies so much, and MP's in Parliament must have felt pretty stupid after being duped into supporting a war in Iraq.

So when he said at the begging of the last election " that he would give way to Gorden Brown" but also said he "would serve a full term", finally our our dumb-a ss politicians have decided to make him lay his cards on the table in public.

If he tries to go back on what he has said in public, ( he will leave within 12 months) then he will be forced out the humiliating way.

All that you see is what the television and press show you, i.e. a hyped up, over sensationalised version of something, barely resembling anything near the truth.
Lets face it, the Government has been in power for 10 years, apathy has set in,nothing new at all. But that in itself is boring so out come the news boys with their outlandish imaginings and story telling techniques and a lot of gullible people are all sucked in.
Just watch for a another major news story breaking out and see how the so called government crisis will disappear from our screens!

re:- Is the Labour Government in the Uk now collapsing - I hope so.It's time to implode, we have had enough of Mr Teflon at the top and his cronies suiting themselves and not others.How much blood has been spilled in Iraq and Aghanistan? I bet the blood in Westminster can't compare with real blood spills in our illegal wars. And who will take the crown from Labour ? Hopefully not the tories , we have had enough of them as well. In fact they are all the same just career politicians in it for themselves.

One can only live in hope.

I do not think so! the main reason that they are still competitive is that there is no other strong party which could lead the country. The conservative are a big joke since lady Thatcher left...I think we might get stuck with this party for a long time!

Yes Lorne, it is seriously fractured but the main patient refuses to accept medications or hospitalization and he keeps hanging and spreading the disease, to the utter dismay of those around him!

Yes. You are right. The labour party is imploding on its self.

Long may it continue. We need a change of government as soon as possible!!

I don't see it fully collapsing because you will always have a movement that, in essence, resembles the "real" population of people. I would think there is a level of the conservative party that would start to set on a decline because there is a greater group of "working class" people being repesented---of course, unless they are on the dole!
