I just found out I'm pregnant with my second child! I had my first when I was fifteen and wasn't ready to deal with that responsiblity so, my mother adopted him. Sad, but you gotta do what you gotta do. After I had my first I gained a lot of weight. Now I'm 5"3 weighing 300+ ((I'm not too sure how much exactly.)) I also have recreationally used drugs in the past two months. Just marijuana and maybe cocaine...I'm pretty sure I didn't while I was pregnant but to be safe...let's say it did. I am six weeks pregnant. How much of a risk is my baby at being overweight, pregnant and have smoked marijuana? I had no plans of getting pregnant but that's what happened. I'm so full of regret that I used drugs so please don't beat me up over it! Thank you for your responses!

I also wanted to add I am not a drug user. I do every once in a while but I'm not going to do it anymore. I am twenty-two years old and I'm married.

These risks aren't for us on Y! Answers to determine. Your weight and drug use do seem they would be a problem but ask a doctor. Maybe he/she can get you on a diet and/or treatment for your weight. I really don't know on this one. Congratulations!

Being overweight, using drugs...those are both serious problems. Being overweight can cause a lot of health problems. And I don't even have to tell you why drugs are bad, you should already know. As for getting pregnant. Yes sometimes it happens, but YOU made the choice to have sex, and everytime you have sex you are making the choice to have a child(because there is always that possibility of getting pregnant). I would suggest from now on using more protection, if you haven't already. Also, talk to your doctor about the effects the drugs can have on your baby. That is the only way to truly find out the answer. And when you say that you don't have a drug problem, you just use pot and cocaine "sometimes". If you use it at all that is a problem. I would suggest talking to your doctor and then getting some sort of help....group, counselor, etc. There are tons of them free at cost. You just have to search around in your area. You doctor may even have some recommendations as to where you go, and surely he will have a meal plan for you so you can drop the pounds and become healthier. And its not that you need to be looking like some supermodel, you just need to get down to a weight that is HEALTHY for you and your baby. Of course this is all just my opinion. You can take it or leave it. I hope everything works out for you and your baby.

Weight is not biggest case of infertility. Aside from weight, both too much and too little, there are also various other male and female factors that could inhibit conception. In fact, being overweight could be a symptom of another problem that can affect fertility and it is found in both larger and smaller women. One of the characteristics of PCOS includes being overweight, mostly carrying the weight around the stomach area. Primarily this is the because of being insulin resistant - Metformin can definitely help with this. It can also return your cycles to normal if they are erratic, usually within 3-6. However, as noted in the other responses, plenty of BBWs have no problem conceiving or carrying pregnancies. If you feel like there is a problem, the best thing to do is to consult an RE. If the doctor is a good one, he/she will focus more on adopting a healthy lifestyle vs. focusing on the weight. When you make modifications to your lifestyle, and that may include adding Metformin -with or without the addition of Clomid, the weight loss will happen anyway.

Being over weight is not a big problem with pregnancy, but doing drugs may harm the fetus but since you did not do any drugs since you conceived the baby there should not be a problem, still you should consult a gynecologist as soon as you can.
Having a baby is a serious matter it involves the life and death of a human being, and by doing drug you may harm the abilities of the baby, so please refrain from doing drugs at all time specially when you are pregnant. This time try to raise the baby yourself so you may know what a precious joy a baby can bring and how wonderful of a blessing it is.

Worse things have happened. I think its unlikely that your baby will be affected by drugs, since you stopped, but there's always that slight possibility. The weight I wouldn't worry about. Large people have babies everyday. You just need to direct all these questions/concerns toward you doctor. Definitely mention the drug use. Your doctor can't judge you. He/she will answer your questions, and you'll probably feel alot better afterwards. Also, if your weight is an area of concern, your doctor will help you with that as well. Do get to one soon and start getting proper pre-natal care! That's the BEST thing you can do right now! Good luck, and congrats on your baby and quitting the drugs. Sounds like you truly have this baby's best interest at heart, and that is very respectable!

It is my understanding that babies of larger woman usually end up small when they are born. I am not sure of the reasons behind that.
If you are concerned with your child being over weight then you must be a positive role model. Eat right and exercise.
As for the drug use I think you will be fine. The baby and mother don't actually start sharing the same blood until a few weeks after conception. But please do like you said and quit taking anymore drugs.
I am glad you had the courage when you were younger to realize that you wouldn't ready to have a child and do the responsible thing.

Your doctor will tell you... that you shouldn't worry about what you've done... worry about what you do from this point on. I don't think the recreational use of drugs will have an adverse effect on the baby at six weeks... I think you need to worry more about your weight and how it will effect your pregnancy.
Speak to your doctor and be honest about what you've done. No sense in masking the truth. See what they recommend. If you're really concerned, you could do an amnio (though I'm not sure if drug use will effect the problems an amnio would be used to detect). Check with your doctor and don't stress yourself over this. I've known plenty of women who had partied while pregnant and didn't know it. They all had healthy babies... no problems.

Even if you DID use when you first got pregnant, as long as you don't use now that you know you are everything should be fine. You do need to be checked by a doctor for diabetes because if you are having issues with high blood sugars it can put your pregnancy at risk, especially for Placental abruption, which can cut off oxygen to the baby. I almost lost my son at 29 weeks due to this because my blood sugars, even though I kept them under control while pregnant they were not that great before I got pregnant.

Please stop using drugs while you're pregnant. It can mess up your body, and your baby has a chance of becoming very sick. Whenenver you reach for it, tell yourself it is affecting the health of your child.

First, you must get through the drugs and pregancy, weight later. If you really feel you need the drugs, continue AFTER you've delivered, and keep them away from the kid. As he or she grows, to keep him from being overweight if thats what you're concerned about, don't buy much sugar and sweets, and make sure he or she stays on a healthy diet. Sign him or her up for a sports team or kickboxing or gymnastics.

If you want to lose weight, try a fitness center or pilates. Keep yourself away from too much fats and sweets, and try taking a long walk or pilates.

If you keep drugs away from your baby, he won't pick up those habits, and also, please stop using them! All they are doing is screwing up your bind, spirit, and body. If you keep your child fit and healthy, he will stay at a healthy, normal weight. And try and keep the fact from him or her, and when she or she is old enough, tell her the mistake you made, and not to get herself caught in that web too.

Again I say that the average woman does not know she's pregnant until she's like 6 to 8 weeks...and most were smoking drinking etc...I would say that if you have completely discontinued use of the drugs your baby should be fine. But bring this up with your doctor for his/her opinion. Don't be scared or worried, just stop using immediately. I know its hard, but do it for the baby. The baby is in its developing stages right now...God bless!
