What activities would arouse your suspicions? Be honest. Would you be more suspicious if they were Middle Eastern? If Timothy McVeigh, the Oaklahoma bomber, or somebody Middle Eastern, with a name like Ahmed Mohammed had been your neighbors who would have made you more suspicious?

This is an interesting topic & interesting to see people's reactions to a "question." Because I have asked a question there is an assumption that I actually have neighbors I suspect of terrorism. I don't. I asked the question hypothetically. I guess I should have made that clear. Just wanted to know if because of the media and because of 911 and war in the Middle East if people equate being Muslim with terrorism. I think we do unfortunately. It's the same as when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor - we equated all Japanese with being the enemy and put our own citizens of Japanese ancestry in prison camps. I am not saying the terrorist threat isn't real - it is and it's scary, and yet I think it has made many people so paranoid that they would suspect anyone of Middle Eastern descent even if they've known them for years. Right after 911, someone I've known for years, got yanked out of a movie theater & thrown in jail because he's of Middle Eastern descent. He's also American born.

define terror

when I see missionaries go out 2 by 2 to try and convert others by the busload in communities...I am terrified by the thought of making all people into one Borg of a humanity and losing what makes us strong, our diversity

the goal of 'terrorists' is attention and getting message out to make more fear and to manipulate others by coercion into a certain action

when I see others going to church I dont' do anything but say way to go, be part of community

when they come around and tell me thier way and culture is only truth and I need to join or die, I call the FBI and they go and arrest the 'choosen ones'

what a fearful world we try and scare each other into

if you see your neighbor involved in a random act of kindness and you havn't done anything loving, and it would make you look bad, would you stop them? is it possible one person's terrorist is another's freedom fighter? Britain certainly thought so in 1775

this battle for domination and 'winning' kills us all, we all lose

what can we do to jointly get along and all benefit mutually...

It's a question of numbers. There was only one Timothy McVeigh. At the present time the Homeland Security, FBI, CIA NSA, etc. have over 600,000 potential Islamic terrorists on their watch list. As far as I'm concerned, if they're Middle Eastern in appearance, they're potential terrorists. If they sneezed wrong, I'd report'em.

A change in patterns of action might be the result of a number of things. New relationships form and old one disappear. Illness can change the patterns of behavior. If you really see something that is threatening, I would inform the proper officials. It is true that most of our enemies in this war are radical Islamics. That is not to say that all Muslims are our enemies. Most folks are not supportive of violence.

What else do we have?
It's good to be vigilant, but not a vigilanty.

I'd report it to the FBI. No, race/ethnicity don't much matter. You can figure it out by observing their behaviors. Sorry but purchasing lots of Fertilizer with no garden or Pool Chemicals with no pool....that's a pretty big indicator.

This is a great question because it reminds me of the movie "Arlington Road" with Tim Robbins. If you haven't seen it you ought to...it addresses this question perfectly.

But to answer your question: we are from a rural area, so we would just go shoot them in the face and go on with our work. It's the way things are done out here.

ARE YOU SERIOUS? I would contact an investigator and report what you have seen and heard. My God terrorizm isnt anything to look at lightly. What if you could have stopped something? How would you feel if something happened and you saw it brewing and could have done something about it? Could you live with yourself? God Bless
