If you trust someone shouldn't that mean that you have the utmost confidence in them? What does it mean when they say they trust you but not the person you are around, does that in effect mean that they do not trust you?

If you trust someone it means that you have confidence in them always treating you right...and if they don't trust the person around you then it means that they think that that person is not right for you to hang out with...that they might convince you to make wrong decisions...

Trust means faith in someone. To trust is one of the hardest things in the world right now. In few cases does one have the interests of others at heart rather then those of himself.
You can trust but you must always expect that that same person doesn't trust you as much as you do him.

I'd say it means that they trust YOU, but they are dubious about your ability to pick the right sort of people to be around.
Trusting someone doesn't mean that you think they're perfect in every respect.
