Well, I know what freedoms I have lost and how I feel the world is becoming but I would like to know what you all think about the subjects of freedoms and if they are being lost. It just seems to me that the government wants more and more control of its citizens and makes concessions for outsiders.

How do we even know it was terrorists who caused 911? Has there been another attack on US soil since?

Freedom of privacy is one! Being searched as you try to board a train or subway, or you having your vehicle searched SUPPOSEDLY at "random" (which means, don't be of dark complexion). Check the Preamble and the 4th Amendment of the Constitution of the USA.

When government agents listen in on your telephone conversations or you can be reported by a librarian for reading particular books... (neighbors spying on one another like in Nazi Germany). Check Preamble, 1st and 4th Amendment, Ibid.

The fact that photography enthusiasts can no longer go anywhere to take a photo without some ignorant rent-a-cop or some misinformed/uninformed cop or Fedreal agent telling you that it is "against the law to take a photo" when there is NO such law! Check 1st Amendment, Ibid.

How about the fact that the government now has secret prisons and are keeping people there without formal charges (which is illegal but being done nonetheless) and are likely also torturing SUSPECTED (not tried and proven) terrorists? Ever hear of Writ of Habeas Corpus? Check 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th and 9th Amendments, Ibid.

IF you REALLY want to get technical, try this: TITLE 18, PART I, CHAPTER 13, Sec. 242. (Civil Rights) - Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law: "Whoever, under color of any law, statute, ordinance, regulation, or custom, willfully subjects any person in any State, Territory, Commonwealth, Possession, or District to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured or protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States, or to different punishments, pains, or penalties, on account of such person being an alien, or by reason of his color, or race, than are prescribed for the punishment of citizens, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; and if bodily injury results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include the use, attempted use, or threatened use of a dangerous weapon, explosives, or fire, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and if death results from the acts committed in violation of this section or if such acts include kidnapping or an attempt to kidnap, aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to commit aggravated sexual abuse, or an attempt to kill, shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned for any term of years or for life, or both, or may be sentenced to death."

Do you THINK that's enough for you?

Is taking your shoes off at the airport a loss of your freedoms?

Is not being able to carry a waterbottle on an airplane a loss of your freedoms?

I don't see how either of these examples are a loss of anyones freedoms.

" think the Patriot Act is just the beginning of our freedoms being lost. However, it has not yet become apparent to the blind masses. The only people being affected by it are the ones who have been jailed without charge or trial. Ask them. "

The ONLY people that even comes close to falling under this classification Bia are people who have substantiated links to terrorism. I don't give a hoot what someone who is linked to terrorism has to say about their potential freedoms being taken away.

Why in the world would you want to defend the rights of a terrorist over protecting the lives of innocent people Bia?

We are not losing freedoms. Most weak, spineless, would be Americans give them away. In the words of our founders. Those who would give up freedoms for the illusion of safety deserve neither. Stop giving them up. The government should be afraid of it's people, not the people afraid of their gov.
Oh and leogirl0804, why do you take your shoes off at the airport? Why can't you carry water or toothpaste on a plane?
Freedom is the lack of intrusion of government into the private affairs of people, and while some regulation is beneficial to society, to give up the freedom of protection of ones self is to allow control of ones self by those who have not given up that freedom.

You're not out there all alone alot of people not just in the US feel that way.

Ted Kopell who is now with the Discovery channel is hosting a special on 9/11 on sunday sept 9th on that very topic. You'll have to check your local listings for the times, but after it there will be a town meeting to discuss that topic. He feels from what he said on Charlie Rose the other night that American judicial rights are in jeopardy and that instead of presumed innocence and a right to a fair and speedy trial, people , including those suspected of terrorism , are guilty until proved innocent and can be held without due process as long as the US government wants it.

We are losing our freedoms but contrary to belief by most, it isn't the conservatives that are taking them through increased security measures, it is the liberals that let people get away with stuff in the first place that endangers everyone else. For example, I can't walk down my street at night safely because of the courts turning criminals back out into the street in the form of parole and probation.

I dont think that soon there will be none, that is not possible. the freedoms are conquered, not granted, it is up to people to realize this and do something about it.

I don't think it is so much we are loosing freedoms, but that more and more, politicians are starting to believe that they are our Lord and Master and are free to piss on us as soon as they are elected.
