I just asked about it and to follow up, I am 6 days late today, will be induced tomorrow. My baby is 8.8lb that is why the dr doesnt want to wait longer. His head is down but his whole position is not down enough. I am not dilated and i have no contractions. As for the induction, i know i should've asked her, but i was busy worrying. She mentioned (sorry dont know medical terms) inserting tablets into my cervix every 6 hours until am dilated enough. I dont know any more details that that. Am really scared, its my first baby and everyone says that induced labor really hurts.

My doctor tried to induce labor 5 different times with my first. He wasn't coming out until he was ready. I went into natural labor on Halloween. (I kept telling her he was going to be a Halloween baby, she didn't believe me.)

Typically an induced labor comes on a lot faster so you don't have time to get used to the ever increasing pain level. It does NOT hurt anymore than normal labor. Epidurals are NOT performed by obstetricians or nurse midwives. They are performed by anesthesiologists who do basically nothing else but pain management for a living. Just because someone had a bad epidural, does NOT mean that you will.

I didn't use drugs with either of my kids, but I have a high pain tolerance, and when you're in the middle of pushing, you don't pay attention to anything but getting your baby into this world.

Drugs during labor are a personal choice. You can tell your doctor that you'd like to give it a go by yourself at first, and if it becomes unbearable, then have them give you something. You won't be getting an epidural though if you try it by yourself at first. Because by the time you'll want pain meds, you'll be too far into labor to even bother with an epidural. It wouldn't take effect by the time the baby is born. Good luck honey, just remember that we as women have been doing this since the dawn of time. We were made for this. So you'll get throught it okay. =)

I heard the contrary... that induction is great (since you can pretty much schedule your delivery). My girlfriend had all 3 children induced and wouldn't have it any other way. I'm on my second pregnancy and the doctor said they'll induce me because my first one came so fast.... so I don't know quite what's involved. I'm sure the closer I get to my due date, the more they'll tell me.
An induction won't hurt you any more than the natural course. It hurts no matter what. I delivered my first with no drugs... and it really hurt. I swore at that moment I would "never do this again". But a few weeks later, I knew I wanted more children... and here I am. And I'm ready to do it drug free. The minute you start pushing (which I thought was the best part) and you see your baby, the pain goes away instantly. Trust me when I tell you, that you can make it through the pain. It just feels like the worst cramping you've ever felt... and that you have the worst urge to take a poop. If you're really scared of the pain, you can get an epidural. I've heard for some women, it's awesome!
Don't worry yourself unnecessarily. Take comfort in the fact that women have been giving birth for thousands of years (and most without any pain relief). If it was that unbearable, the human race would cease to exist. Women are tough cookies.... and you'll see that you are one too!

I have been induced with all three of my children. I've had complications and I have to take breathene to make sure I don't have them so when its time my body just don't want to work then lol. Anyways when I was induced they did it through my IV so I've never heard of the tablet thing before that does sound kind of scary though. I would maybe ask about the IV kind. As far as pain I will be completely honest with you! They say induced labor is 3X more painful well believe them!!!!!!!!!!!! It is very painful. My b/f didn't believe me and she had her first one naturally w/out help well her second she was induced she never questioned me again!!! I wouldn't have an epidural either b/c I don't trust them people but I did get a intrithecal. Its a shot that they give you in your spine. Its still in a dangerous area but less risky and its a one time deal they don't have to pull a tube back out or anything. I had it done two times. I've had three children. I had my second without and I swore I would never do that again. I would strongly suggest you get some sort of drug. But I really wouldn't worry too much. You are probably laughing b/c I just told you how bad it could be then tell you not to worry but I can say that b/c I know once you see that baby's pretty little face all pain will leave you. Nothing will matter but that precious little miracle you just gave birth too. Just concentrate on what you are in the process of doing. Focus on your baby and it will go alot faster. I wish you lots of luck and congratulations on your new little bundle!

Inducing does make a difference in the pain. With my 1st one I was induced and what happens is the instead of the gradual pain a normal non-induced labor would bring. With an induced labor the pain hits you all at once. With my 2nd I went into regular labor and the pain was about the same but by the time the pain worsened I did have an epidural. An anesthesiologist does the epidural and they are really qualified to do them. No worries if you are going to be induced get an epidural.

I am 7 days late and am scheduled to be induced on Tuesday and I am really looking foward to it. Its true that being induced can bring on stronger contractions but I have full confidence in my doctor. I am going to see how I do with the pain but if it gets too uncomfortable I am definetely going to ask for the epidural. If the baby were to get much bigger you might not be able to fit the baby out of your birth canal which will put you in a hard labor that ends up in a c-section once they realize the baby cant fit through so trust your doctor. They want whats best for you and wont take any chances with your baby. Some ppl are so against any medical intervention under any circumstance. Try not to be scared, my baby has not dropped yet either but once labor starts you can do things like bounce on a birthing ball or walk around and it can help speed things up. My sister bounced on a birthing ball and went from 2cm to 10cm very quickly.

The doctor does not administer the epidural. The anestesialogist does and they are highly trained. I had an epdipural last month. I also had the tablets to induce labor. I only had to have one, but I was already dilated to 3-4 and having contractions. They had to speed up labor because I was only 21 weeks and my water had broken. I didn't really HAVE to have the epidural, but I chose to because they told me that there was nothing they could do to save my baby girl and I could still feel her kicking, and that bothered me. Once the epidural kicked in I didn't feel anything. Not being dilated or having contractions yet, you may have to have 2-6 of the tablets.

I was induced that way, with the tablets. Ouch. It just bothered me tons. There is nothing wrong with getting an epidural. I had one. I didn't even feel the needle go in my back . It helped me so much. I am getting one this time also. They told me that my baby was going to weigh about 10 lbs. My cutie only weighed 7 lbs 1 ounce. You will be fine. The contractions do hurt tons, but you will do fine. I am horrible with pain , and I am doing it all again. So, trust me, you can do it too !!! Good luck and congrats !!!!

have you ever considered 'The company Of Being Born'? i've got confidence it relatively is on Netflix, verify it out. It explains extremely properly what induction and epidural do to the toddler. to boot that it may bring about maximum of problems! Why danger your well-being and the well-being of your toddler? You have been extremely fortunate it went ok the 1st time - and you're precise, it substitute into partly considering you have already got been in labor. merely wait the due date potential you toddler would desire to be born 3 weeks till now it or 2 weeks after it. while you're nevertheless unlikely into labor on 22 week, it relatively is whilst inductions are reported. however i be attentive to an outstanding variety of folk who'd argue even that. you will no longer stay pregnant continually and there are dissimilar different suggestion on a thank you to set off labor. so a lot extra organic and tender on your physique and on your toddler than pitocin.

With my first child, my water broke on it's own. After 8 hours of going no where, they put me on pitocin. I had him about 10 hrs after that.

It does hurt, but so does childbirth itself, so don't worry too much about it.

As far as the epidural, I would trust the anestesiologist. That's what they are trained to do. There's no use going through something like this, and making yourself be in pain. If you really don't want the epi, you can always get non narcotic painkillers injected into your IV. Nubain is good. Demerol is a narcotic painkiller that you can also use, but the epi lasts longer, and is less drugs overall.

Good luck.

TRUST ME........You will learn to like epidurals once you feel the pain of labor!!!! That needle in your back feels like sunshine compared to labor pains! Epidurals are awesome.....takes away all the pain! Sorry to say, but no matter what kind of childbirth you have, its gonna hurt!! You may as well accept that and get over it! Just remember, people do it everyday, and it will pass. You'll forget about it when you hold your baby that first time. Good luck!
