i am an engineering student and i want to improve my english language skill in order to get a better placement in one of the leading "M.N.C's".i would like to have suggestions indicating any such study material or reference material available for free on the internet.

A decade ago to learn English, you had to attend costly English classes or purchase course material like tapes and books. Now you can learn English for free from the comfort of your home using the internet. The BBC and the British Council offer a number of online courses which teach written and spoken English. I do not know of any ebooks, but Purdue has a great website with lots of handouts and study materials. Check out the ESL pages.
