As you probably know, we have landed on the Moon six time, the first being Apollo 11 which landed on the Moon on July 20, 1969.

We are planning to return to the Moon for a variety of reasons including to use what we learn there to help us prepare for the upcoming mission to Mars since Mars and the Moon are similar in some ways.

For more information on this, take a look at the NASA website.

12 astronauts (all american) have walked on the Moon, in 6 different missions. A few more have orbited the Moon. We haven't been to the Moon since 1972, so it's about time we went back - there's some interesting stuff there!
