Miles traveled divided by amount of fuel used = miles per gallon

321 divided by 18.4 = 17.45

321 miles divided by 18.4 gallons

Must start with full tank and record mileage then. drive until next filup, record mileage. subtract previous mileage from present mileage and divide that sum by amt of gallons added. for instance; you filled up, drove 321 miles since that fill-up and refilled with 18.4 gals. 321 divided by 18.4 = 17.44mpg

well, you take # of miles and divide by the gallons so 321/18.4 = 17.44 miles /gallon.
