I have heard that having 2 anti-virus programs installed may conflict with each other.

It's usually suggested to install one. This is due to the fact that there might be conflicts between two antivirus programs causing unpredictable behaviour. There could be nothing visibly wrong but you might not realise there is a problem.

Personally, have not used AVAST so I can't suggest which to use. One more thing is sometimes there are inbuilt firewall functions. Hence, there could be problems with internet connections sometimes.

It is always advisable to have only one anti-virus program installed. Choose one or the other and stick with it.

there is a possibility that one anti-virus would see the other as doing virus activity and try to "contain" it with some corrective action. choose 1 anti-virus and update it regularly. AVAST is good i think.
