Brand name is rather irrelevant when it comes to oil, even with the synthetics - the differences between each brand is minute - oil has additive packages (friction inducers, detergents, etc.)for use in automotive application, which is where each brand tweeks to make their own formula (very small difference between each). However, with a synthetic oil the base is human engineered to have the molecules break down evenly which gives better lubrication as the oil breaks down. If you are changing the oil regularly, then even the store brand is sufficient as long as it has current API standard (circle label on back of bottle), should be SL at this time (SH and SJ were last 2 standards) and you are using the correct viscosity grade (5w30, 10w30, etc.) for your vehicle. Everything else is just opinion...

Beware when buying synthetic oils.Check the label on it to see if it is esther based. If it is,it is synthetic,if it doesn't it is an oil made useing a synthetic process.Mobil 1 used to be a real synthetic but it isn't now.I think the best true synthetic oil is called and made by AMSOIL,but you may be hard pushed to find anywhere that sells it....try ebay,i have seen it there one.American truck drivers put it in their engines and it doesn't need changing for 100,000 miles, just the filters.

This question has been answered well, next you need to check to see if your manufacturer will allow you to use synthetic oils in your bike. Some gaskets and parts are susceptible to rot or breakdown when in contact with certain chemicals.

On my bike the synthetic is too slippery for the clutch. Under moderate acceleration the clutch will slip, and the RPMs go nuts.

I stick with cycle oil, and change it every 3000 miles or so along with the oil filter.

maxima mtl. i have been using it for about 10 years in my suzuki rm motocross bikes. and the lack of wear(check by mechanic) and how much longer a clutch last is unbeleivable. i run mtl 85 weight, it protects like a 85 weight yet is thinner than 5 weight oil. they make it in different weights. most of the peoepl here are telling you to use car/truck oil. you cant do that!! a kx uses a wet clutch car/truck oil containes friction modifiers and will ruin a clutch. use only 2 stroke motorcycle oil. in your crankcase., like maxima mtl there are other out ther also that are for a wetclutch 2 stroke application.

silkolene 5w30 is good for that bike but if the engine is worn in any way synthetic oil will find any weak spots in seals ,gaskets, etc
