Instead of electing an intelligent, respectable, experienced president, we elect one with "likeability" who can "connect with the people". Doe connecting with the average person have to mean that they ARE an average person?

Personally, I'd rather a President that doesn't give a *bleep* about me, but still gets the job done.

Are we going to elect another average Joe in '08, or are we going to elect a GOOD president?

For more info on eletist societies, please read 'The Republic' by Plato, as it was the cornerstone of American Law.

Why are we no longer an eletist society in America?

Maybe because people who ask questions about elitism and refer to Plato can't even spell elitist?

There is a big difference between elitist and representative government.
Even if people hate Bush, as you seem to, and the voting process that got him elected was inefficient to say the least, we still have a representative government in the U.S. today.
With Kerry we would have been more of an elitist-governed nation.
I definitely understood your concern here, since it was obvious to anyone following the election why Bush won - rural, religious, conservative America; i.e. the average joes.
In my opinion we may never again be an elitist society in America, because of the supreme need for "tolerance" and "equal rights".
I read TIME magazine, and the cover story of last week's edition was about why many students entering college are and SHOULD reject schools like Harvard and the Ivy Leagues, choosing smaller liberal arts colleges instead.
It seems to me that we can no longer be an elitist society because, mainly by the rulings of the Supreme Court, America has become too free and equal, to the point where anyone who stands out in any way is looked at with suspicion.
Just look at the latest news stories and the reaction of the American public to them and you will see what I mean.

P.S. - Bush graduated with a B.S. from Yale and an M.S. from Harvard. To me that not an average American.

What does Plato have to do with American Law??? You
must be talking about Hillary and "Slick Willie" Clinton &
the DimocRATic Party.

I look for the quailities in a president that I look for in any good boss. A person who is a leader, who can get people to follow them.....who understands that they work for the people below them, because without them they don't have a job. Does the person have to be kind, caring or carismatic? Not for me, but if they lack in this area, they better get the job done.

In the end, I believe everyone's morals can be bought...so no matter who we put in the office......enough money waved in front of them and they will turn from a leader into a puppet.....Men like JFK....who in the end was killed for his leadership....are few and far between......especially in todays society.

Please, feel free to elect more candidates whom you think would be good presidents. We could really use another Republican landslide victory in '08.
