"Coming of age" refers to the process of changing from a child to an adult. Different cultures consider "adulthood" to be at different ages and different standards may apply to what makes someone an adult. Also, men and women may become adults at different ages or through different processes.
Some cultures mark the change through special ceremonies, through rites of passage, or may not mark them especially in any way.
In the US and some European countries, some consider things like getting a driver's license, graduating or leaving school, being able to vote, being able to legally consume alcohol, moving out of one's parents home, getting a job, etc. to be part of coming of age. Some religions have certain points that mark a person as an adult or at least as a fully functioning member of the congregation, such as the Jewish bar mitzvah or confirmation among Roman Catholics.

Try to find out what similar things mark one or are part of becoming an adult in China. Find out if there are formal ceremonies that some people participate in that marks them as adults and how common those ceremonies are.

Do you live anywhere near a Chinese consulate? Or Chinese cultural center? Either one would be a great source of information. So would a library.
For another view of coming of age in the Chinese culture, try reading any of Pearl Buck's books.

~Here's a thought, albeit a dumb one: pick up a book (or visit a website) and read up on China, particularly as regards Chinese youth and adolescents. Take notes on what you read about. Put your notes into some coherent order and construct a thesis. Then write about it. Rather simple and basic, no?
