most the time used on a radial arm saw...it is a set of stacked blades put together to make one wide blade that will cut a grove into the material ur using....we use them n making book shelves and such.....common cut is to take out 3/4 wide by 1/2 the width of the material ur cutting....

A dado cut is a "groove" cut across the grain. It can be cut on a table saw using a dado blade, however there are other ways of making a dado. You could cut both sides with any saw, and use a chisel to remove the material left in between.
A similiar cut, made parallel to the grain, is called a plow. Both of these cuts are used in making furniture, among other things.
