I want to use my wireless router without my pc, is this possible? The only thing connected to my PC is the ethernet cable that gives it internet access, I want to get rid of my PC but use a laptop. Any help would be great.

You can have a new laptop connected wirelessly to the Internet via your wireless router and if you like, still continue to use your current PC via the ethernet cable if there are ports available on your router. Alternatively, both your laptop and old PC can access the Internet wirelessly through the router.

If you have not purchased the laptop, look for one that comes bundled with a built-in wireless connection. If not, you can easily buy a PC-Card wireless adapter card for your laptop (for this you need to verify compatibility between the card and your laptop, and between the card and your router).

If you wish to make your PC connect to the wireless router, either continue to use the ethernet cable or buy a separate USB port wireless adapter. If your PC is old and does not support USB, stick to the cable or buy an internal wireless card (check that the old PC OS can support any new cards before buying...). If you plan to dump the old PC, then it doesn't matter....

That sounds like a great idea. Plug in the new wireless router and configure it, using the hard wired setup. Then program your router's wireless network. Be sure to use the security feature.

If you don't have a laptop, look at Toshiba. These are the good ones. Check Staples, WalMart and Costco. LOOK before you buy. Try the keyboard and look at the screen.

Yes, all you need to do is set up your router by plugging into the modem (ethernet cable). Then set up the network.

Your router should have a users guide. If not look online.

im wondering about this also, i think you need the router to connect to the back of your pc as well as an internet card for your laptop. but, if you are getting rid of your laptop.....hmm. i think you can get signal from other people around you in the area. not too sure on this..but idk.
