Wow...I just saw Cats for the first time...awesome. Oklahoma the old favorite standby. Rent is a new classic. The Producers with Matt Brodrick is funny. But really...lets get real.
Favorite:
The Phantom of the Opera
-classic music that is never stale, timeless storyline

My fav musical is and will always be RENT, Jonathon Larson who was the creator, was a man who loved everyone no matter if they had aids, were gay, homeless, white black, or disabled, we were all the same in his eyes. Even gets his point across in the hit song from the play and movie, "Seasons of Love" Unfortunately Jonathon Larson died the day before his show opened on Broadway.

I love Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, and Bugsy Malone, but that could be because i've performed in both of them - as the Narrator in Joseph and as a Singing Girl and Shady in Bugsy....i love Chicago and Grease too, although i've never done those, and at the moment, at school we're doing Our Day Out, which could be classed as a musical as it has songs....and i'm Mrs Kay! Rehearsals start on Monday and i can't wait! :D

i notice nobody's mentioned any stephen sondheim musicals. he's not that well known in britain (more popular in america, i'm english by the way). the music is amazing and the songs move the story along, rather than people just bursting into song. my favourites of his are sweeney todd, into the woods, sunday in the park with george and pacific overtures, but pretty much anything he does is fantastic. if you're an andrew lloys webber fan, check out sondheim to see how musical theatre SHOULD be done!

CAROUSEL, coz it's sad and one of the best songs ever came out of it (You'll Never Walk Alone). Plus I've always loved Gordon Macrae.
CALAMITY JANE, coz it's lively and funny and has the wonderful Doris Day and the hunky Howard Keel as it's stars (loved Howard Keel in SHOWBOAT too!).
WIZARD OF OZ, coz it's an all time classic!
Actually the list is endless........

Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet highway. Barnum. 1776. you're a sturdy guy, Charlie Brown (the unique off-Broadway practice, no longer that crap that performed Broadway many years in the past)

Oh I can't even count how many musicals are my favorite, but currently I 'm loving Bugsy Malone. It's a old one and it stars Jodie Foster and Scott Baio when they were kids. If you haven't seen it you should give it a try. It's really cute.
