Personally I doubt it would have much of an effect. Divorce is more acceptable now than it was 20+ years ago. People in recent studies are less adherent to the idea that they should work it out and are more likely to simply split and move on kids or no kids. They don't feel as restricted by political or religious ideals.

The U.S. Census website has some rather interesting data on this subject if you want to look at it.

My other reasoning for this is that many of my husband's coworkers have children and are getting divorces despite that fact.

i don't think it would be that much higher. The divorce rate is so high because you have tons of people getting married in vegas, just because they want to. And some people get married after only two months of knowing each other then they figure out that they don't really love each other.

Actually -- not a significant level higher than it is right now -- The Big Factor in Marriage Dissolution is either Financial Reasons or the Abuse of a member of the household.

this is a good question, I bet we're going to see the divorce rates go higher in the next few years as all of these baby boomers become empty nesters.

What percentage of people actually stay in a marriage because of the kids these days... slim to none.

PEOPLE USE THEIR KIDS AS AN EXCUSE FOR INNACTION. THEY ARE AFRAID TO MAKE A MOVE OR CHANGE SOMETHING AND STAND ON THEIR OWN TWO FEET.

THEY STAY IN UNHAPPY, UNFILFILLING MARRIAGES, DEMONSTRATING FOR THEIR CHILDREN HOW TO BE A DYSFUNCTIONAL MARRIED COUPLE.

THEIR KIDS GROW UP, AND THINK THAT THIS IS HOW THEY ARE SUPPPOSED TO BEHAVE. THEY PERPETUATE THE DYDFUNCTION, AND THE DIVORCE RATE GOES UP.
