My husband remembers reading them when he was younger, and I have searched the internet high and low but can't seem to come up with the answer. Every once in awhile I will hit a site that says something like the movie was inspired by the ride which was inspired by the book- but it never says the BOOK! I appreciate it greatly!

I have never once heard this myth of the ride being based on any book. I think your husband is mistaken about something he thinks he read 30 years ago.

There may have been books based on the ride, but the ride was just based on an idea Walt Disney had to build a Pirate wax museum at Disneyland. He eventually ended up with the boat ride instead of the museum and now... like 40 years later, it's a hit movie franchise.

I don't believe there ever was a book, unless your husband read some sort of promotional book or something. It was more than likely inspired by stories like treasure island.
