don't worry about that... the recipient will still be viewing your nickname (the one that you set up)... better yet, try doing a LOOP-back test (IM yourself)...
yes, that is possible cause i just done it. to do this test, enter your name and IM info in your address book (preferabbly using yahoo mail / addressbook)...now, when you restart your YM, YM will synchonize your addressbook, so click the YM address book (not the Messenger contact list), search your name that you just entered in your addressbook (yahoo mail account) and send yourself an IM loopback message... haha.. it really works! then you can see the difference if your name or nickname really shows up on the other!

Allow me to finish the answer: "Messenger" "My account details" Delete your name from the name fields and your ID will show up. It doesn't matter what you see on your screen the other party sees what he put down for your contact details when you IM.

Edit your contact details and use fullstops..........., yahoo intruduced it so you can't hide blarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrh shame on them you can also edit it through your 360 page if you have one, just delete your name you used to set up account and change it to what ever you want i use the ......... :)

I had a terrible problem with that too, in the end I changed it on top bar under "settings" then "names"
