Some programs in the system tray can be legitimate programs, others may not be. Try right licking the icon and seeing if there is a Exit option. If possible, please mention what the programs are. However, the fact you're having trouble removing them suggests it is not a legitimate programe and could be spyware.

I recommend you use more than anti-spyware software such as Ad Aware, Spyware Doctor, Hijack This and Microsoft AntiSypyware to clean your computer.

hijack this is very helpful in that it can tell you what is currently running and then you have the log file analysed and it will tell you what programs are suspicious and how to remove them.

Okay....do you mean Yahoo Toolbar? Then click on the pencil next to the Large Y on the left of toolbar. You will see Personal Options. You can make your choices there.

Now, if you are talking about the Windows tray, you can close the separate programs the icons stand for, or do you want to keep the programs from loading into memory automatically when you start your computer? That is easy, too, so email me if that is what you need to do.

Hold down the Alt key with your left hand. With the right, hold the left mouse button down and drag the icon up onto the desktop.

When it is on the desktop, right-click on it and select Properties. Be sure it indicates that it is a "shortcut" and not the program before you delete.

Presuming you're referring to the Yahoo Toolbar, since you did not specify...

Click on the pencil on the left side of the Toolbar.
Highlight "Personal Options"
Click on "Add/Edit Buttons"
Clear the checkmarks from the boxes next to the items you do not wish to be on your toolbar, and add checks to the boxes next to items you wish to use.
Click "finished" when you're done.
