refinish it

You could have some residual moisture still in the wood. Take a blow dryer and run it over the spot. That should help draw any moisture locked in out. This might take a few minutes.

Mayo as mentioned above can help recondition wood, but I would suggest a product sold in many antique stores, furniture stores. Howard's furniture polish comes in several shades, this will renew a worn finish to wear it almost looks as if the item as been refinished. You can also get a product known as GoJo, it comes in an orange container, sort of looks like lard, but this product will clean and renew a dried or worn finish. You might do this step prior to the Howard's.

I promise if you ever use Howard's you will be amazed at the results. Usually costs about $10.

To remove the water marks place some mayonnaise on the spots and cover for about 15-20 min. Then wipe it off. Put some wipe on poly urethane or past wax on it after to protect it. If you do have to sand it down use a fine grit paper like 100. Then go finer like 150-220. Cherry darkens with age and is often left un stained. You can leave it in the sun outside for a couple of days and it will start the darkening. Then just poly the top and your done.

You need to sand it and then go to Lows, or Home Depot and get a good polish for it like chest nut and polish it then when you get something white on your table you could wash it off with a sponge, but I recomend not putting pans of any sort onto the tabe when tooken out of the oven. The polishj will bubble and peel of in the spot you put the pan on.Well good luck and I hope your table will look great, mine did.

I have the same problem..I've considered just sanding the entire top and staining all over again.
I've also considered using a buffer and some good polish..but I really don't think it'll do the trick..

guess we'll see..

Rub mayonaise into it.
I was given Granny's antique Walnut table. This is what my Dad told me to do.

Sorry to tell you, but the only way to fix it is indeed to refinish it. You'll need to sand and restain. :(
