A great resource is the Federalist Papers. A major concern was the tyranny of the majority over the minority...while keeping it so the minority did not hold all of the power. For example, in a democracy, 51% is the majority....so what about the 49%...do they not count? Can the majority rule without ever considering the minority? And..if the minority HAS to be considered....can they use that in a way that makes them more important than the majority?
The Federalist Papers are a collection of essays written in order to try to convince the American people to adopt a Federal constitution.....they'll help you out.
