Psychologically, it is probably that he has a severe Narcissistic Personality Disorder - or depending upon what his reasons are, it might lead to a Borderline Personality Disorder. Borderlines can be dangerous.
The basic problem is that he has limited self esteem - he does not have a good opinion of himself as a person, so he creates lies to compensate. He might just be thinking that he is not good enough for you!
There are those who lie even when the truth would serve them better. That I ascribe to a Munchhausen Complex (not Munchhausen syndrome or syndrome by Proxy).
Not all boys lie, not all girls lie; your question should be:
"why do people lie?"
Virtually everyone stretches the truth sometime.

First, ask "Why do people lie?" Girls lie, too. Probably because they have low self esteem (they already know they're a loser), so they have to create false info about themselves so that you'll be impressed and maybe even "like" them. Sometimes these people end up believing their own lies.
Perhaps this person is experimenting with living a double life. When he "grows up" he'll probably master the art and end up being a bigamist or something.
But not everyone lies. And where this phony is concerned, don't get your feelings hurt, sweetheart. You didn't lose anything but a little of your time and energy. Chalk up that lost time and energy to Lesson Learned.

Boys, like most people, lie for different reasons. It could be that he didn't think you'd like him if he told you the truth. It could be he didn't want you to find out who he really was. It could be he just gets a thrill out of lying. Not all boys lie, but the ones that do don't deserve to be with you.

My first thought is Sociopath. Nice boys (normal boys) do not lie about things like that. They either want to impress you or actually believe (at least for the moment) that what they are telling you is true or of value to themselves. My second thought, right after the first one (sociopath) is RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boys lie for numerous reasons:
1. Because they can
2. Their probably not sure whether you'd like them if they actually told the truth &
3. They probably lack self confidence or are not too sure of themselves.

Your question is a lie. It implies that lying is gender-specific. That's not true.
Why do people lie? To get something they want.
That said... males usually lie to get inside females. Females usually lie to get some advantage they haven't earned, or to control someone else.
Maybe all that will change, now that you are looking into it.

That particulary boy probably lied because he's a dishonest jerk. Not all males are liars, in fact it seems that on average they are more honest than females.

It doesn't matter. People that lie can't be trusted. You can't ever believe anything they say, so it's best to not bother with them at all !
