In the first stages of labor, it is like a dull period cramp really low in your abdomen. Once you progress, it gets much more painful, but still like a period cramp. Some women have back labor, though, and I don't know what that feels like. You will know when you are having them. You may not realize what is going on until they get closer together because the last month of pregnancy is already so miserable, but you will know.

contractions that are not painful are not true labor contractions. Contractions that get stronger and closer together are the REAL DEAL. Contractions that STOP when you walk are not labor contractions labor contractions get stronger when you walk. Some women don't feel much in there belly area they feel the most in the lower back. So if you get loose bowels back pain contractions that get closer it could be labor if the water breaks always go to the hospital. Once the contractions are 4 to 6 mins apart you FEEL THEM then they get 3 mins apart your going to not be able to ignore them.

they should feel like severe menstrual cramps, however, it's best to not rely on other people's experiences, and determine what your body is telling you. My sister went through three hours of early labor by herself because everyone told her that 'back contractions' were not true contractions- the location of the contraction has a lot to do with the location on the uterus that the fetus has attached to.

It depends on how far along you are, and if you have back labor or not. I had back labor with my son, and because of someone sideswiping my care years ago, I have a bad back and didn't realize I was in labor until I was already dilated to 9. With my daughter I was only 21 weeks along when my water started to leak and since I was not that far along it jsut felt like slight pressure.

ive had four kids, and always felt contractions, when you have one your muscles will tighten up across your stomach. and ive never heard of it not hurting. besides the pain is the pelvis is moving farther apart so the baby can come thru the birth canal
i hope this helps

CONTRACTIONS ARE DIFRENT FROM ANYTHING ELSE, U MIGHT NOT KNOW BUT MOSTLY ITS A LOWER BACK PAIN FOLLOWED BY UR STOMACK FELLING HARD AND THEN IT GOSE AWAY, WHEN THEY FIRST START U WONT KNOW IF ITS JUST BECAUSE UR TIRED OR WHAT, BUT ONCE THE CONTRATIONS ARE CLOSER TOGETHER TRUST ME U'LL KNOW THE FEELING.
