It means it is a precursor to another type of cell. Red blood cells (erythrocytes) for example do not start out as such, they start out as stem cells and differentiate into red blood cells. So it could be considered an immature form of a certain type of cell. An erythroblast is the name of the cell just before it becomes an erythrocyte.

are u sure its blast i think its plast, but it means its made for a specifc purpose
