It has been argued that the Jokerman represents Christ, an antichrist, Israel, and Bob Dylan himself. In the light of such varied readings, it may seem ludicrous to attempt to pin down the symbolic nature of the Jokerman. However, if we look at the song in the context of its biblical allusions and of the general teachings and events in the Bible, perhaps the most consistent interpretation we can make is that the Jokerman does indeed represent Christ, while the "idol" of the first stanza and the "prince" of the last both serve as antichrist figures.

Ive heard it has been said that this song is about Jesus, it was released on the infidel album shortly after Dylan's born again albums, and many people say that the lyrics refer to a false messiah or prophet i don't know if that's true but if you read the lyrics its a possible explanation, hopes this helps

Does anybody ever know what Bob Dylan is singing about? In addition to his unintelligible articulation, his lyrics are so meaningless that people plug their own meanings into them, and he gets credit for being profound! Nice gig if you can get it.
