Look at the acronym for this site: glbt
Gay - a man attracted to a man
Lesbian - a woman attracted to a woman
Bi - a person attracted to both sexes
Transgender - someone that feels they were born the wrong sex and wishes to live their life as the opposite sex.
People think differently from each other. Some people you know prefer beer, some prefer wine and others won't have any alcohol at all.
I'm a gay male. I'm a man who wants to be a man that is attracted to men. I can't understand why you are straight. Also I can't understand why another man would want to become a woman.
The difference between you and I is that I understand that people have different tastes and that it is each to his or her own.

Something I don't understand is this: if it's within nature to find one's own gender (sexually) attractive, why not the accouterments of dress/style which are merely human-made, not even nature?
Isn't it generally accepted that likes and dislikes are associated with items/objects having nothing typically associated with that emotion? For example, getting hit (or sexually violated) with a hairbrush at a very early age might leave one with a nervous reaction to a certain type of brush for many many years. Or, loving memories may be tied up with texture/appearance of feminine style, as the association of kindness (or sexual pleasure) may have been connected with the giver's style of dress.
Aren't we (humans) deliciously . . . unique? Just give us (pick any culture) a body of rules, and off we go, merrily fulfilling edicts. Accepting and rejecting given norms seems to be the very way we grow and develop, in the 'Evolution of Society' sense.
Another reason for (you!) dressing as a woman: you might give a few close friends a thrill (keep still my fluttering heart) !

Not all cross-dressers are gay. This is the first thing to remember. Some men and women just like dressing as the opposite sex as a particular fetish. Some are transgendered.
BTW... I must also note that there are also those who are particualrly attracted to transexuals.
Anyway, the reality is that everyone has their own thing and you and I don't have to 'get it' for it to be real for the other person.

I think that some people are just born in the wrong body. You can see it in their walk. Hear it in their voice, and in the way they act. For instance, where do the really butch lesbians come from? There are other women, who prefer the company of women, who still look like women. But a butch lesbian wants to look (and probably feels) more like a man than a woman. Same goes for the really feminine man who likes men. There are "regular" guys that are gay, then there are the one's that act like a girl, speak like a girl, and have emotions like a girl's. So they feel like a woman, and would like their outside to reflect their inside.
Kramer from Seinfeld said it best: "Mother Nature's a MAD scientist!" And so it should be.
Of course, there are some people who cross dress just for fun, and more often, they still look like a man in a dress!

well it could be one of many reasons, do you have a sister? did you ever ware your mothers high heals as a child?
Maybe you are just curious about the opposite sex, many men ware their girlfriends clothes out of curiousity, it's ok to be curious.
Or maybe because it isnt allowed, its naughty, the element of danger, do you dress up in your sisters clothes while she is out? that must be a real buzz.
Or maybe you developed as a male when you should have been female, a difference in testosterone levels juring fetal development can mean that the baby develops into a male in the sexual organs and as a female in the brain, maybe you are a hermaphrodite.

Some people like to cross dress. That's all there is to it. Cross dressing is not a sexual preference although it may well be accompanied by certain sexual behaviour by the crossdresser.
Crossdressing is often seen as being part of a gender continuum that goes on to include transvestism, transgenderism and transsexuality.
I give my own definition of these terms below:
Most people in the T community use one of the following terms:
transvestite, transgender and transsexual
These terms are used to refer to various degrees of severity of what is currently referred to as "gender identity disorder"
To greatly oversimplify a transvestite is a person who puts on clothes of the opposite birth sex, but does not feel a need to identify with the pscyho-social role of that sex.
Such "cross-dressing" may be associated with sexual gratification.
A transgender person is a person in whom a degree of cross-dressing is associated with a need to identify with the psycho-social role of the opposite birth sex.
A transsexual person is a person in whom the gender identity disorder is so acute that he/she wishes to identify fully with the psycho-social role of the opposite birth sex.
Numerous transsexuals ultimately make a full physical transition (involving SRS - sexual reassignment surgery) so that they can realize what they feel is their true potential.
A person who is born with the physical traits of both sexes is intersexed.
These cases can be particularly tragic. I know a woman who was born with a complete set of ovaries as well as a penis and testicles. Her condition was not recognized at birth and was only discovered following a physical examination prompted by a suicide attempt in her thirties.

it takes every kind of people person to make the world go around.
people just are what they are chuk: a transvestite might wonder why you are satisfied with just dressing in blokes clothes, since he would find it so liberating to dress in womens clothes, amnd might not understand why why you wouldnt find it liberating. just a matter of taste really, it harms none.

I'm assuming you're a guy. I'm assuming you're very comfortable in your body and gender. How would you feel, with the same mind you have now, if you were born a girl? You wouldn't feel very comfortable, would you?
For straight men crossdressing without actually wanting to be a girl, I'm guessing it's a sexual turn on. They themselves can be their perfect girl I suppose.

I don't really see a problem with blokes dressing up in women's clothes, it's not harming anyone.

I just love the feeling of the silky panties, nylons and then the tightness of the skirts. Women have it made it terms of what they can wear, whenever, wherever. Guys options are soo limited
