people who just want to insult people with good and fun/interesting questions should be removed from all yahoo services as they do not contribute anything useful to the on-line community, yahoo does a great job in providing this service and most are great people, more of a good community, i also think that if someone insults or offends then their points are removed and added to the person they have upset or annoyed, does anyone else agree with their total removal

i am not against funny and sarcastic remarks or, even swear words, but direct and personal insults, they do not come under freedom of speech, just proves they cannot think of anyhing else to say and shows lack of any common sense

You can't account for not offending everyone. Some people just ask moronic questions, and deserve a good offensive reply (e.g. "Hey, here is my racist rant which took both my brain cells to write, it's barely readable, but what do you think? 10 points to the first National Front member to show up"), in which it's clear they don't want your opinion if you're just going to tell them something like the story about immigrants being given free cars is actually not even true.
In many cases, people will just choose to find opinions they don't like as "offensive" - like Media Watch UK or the American Family Association - two bunches of complete morons who are unable to operate the OFF switch on their TVs, and therefore think that all media must be turned into a bland, inoffensive mush because that's all THEY want to watch, and therefore take great pains to whine about how they were offended by programmes they didn't even watch.
If somebody is being a genuine troll, they already have their questions, answers, and accounts cancelled. The issue is that rewarding people for being "offended" will lead to anyone who likes to post with a bit of a sharp tongue, instead posting more boring replies, so losers don't take the chance at getting free points for reporting something they weren't actually offended by.

Yahoo sent me emails threating to remove my account if they have recieved another complaint about me. I don't make personal insults but I always get reported for adult content. My point is if people reported these problems Yahoo does their job and they get removed off the program. So if you feel that someone is saying something offensive just report abuse and if they keep doing it they will eventually lose their account.
A problem with that is that they can always create more accounts which takes away the purpose of the ban. But they might be more responsible if they need to check their email and s*** like that.

Depends on what you call offensive and insulting.
You might find something offensive, but many others may not see it the same way as you do.
Some of those things that are posted may sound a bit offensive, but it does open up the debate.
You cannot ban something just because you don't like it, there are such things as Democracy and free speech.
If you banned those people from answering questions, then what would you want to do next.......Stop people asking stupid questions!. If you did that, there wouldn't be much to read on this forum!!!

Good idea! I've been guilty on a few occasions with those that have repeated asked the same questions over and over again (like, "What is the meaning of life?" and "Why do you think there is/isn't God?") These questions should BY NOW have been answered ad nausea, and I feel that these individuals DESERVE the kind of replies they get... HOWEVER, there have been some very serious questions dealing with moral issues and legal matters and etiquette and someone wacko usually comes with some offensive off-the-wall remark just for the sake of demonstrating his ignorance, stupidity and getting 2 points... that should be done away with (awarding points for merely appearing on a "reply" portion of a posted question).

I'm not into censorship per se, but we do have the choice of clicking the report abuse button if we don't particularly like an answer so it's best that we're self-regulating. When you think of the innocuous words which are used in their normal context like c*ck as in a cockerel being censored as Yahoo automatically think we're talking about a penis, there wouldn't be any fun in this site whatsoever if Yahoo went through the answers with a fine tooth comb.

an interesting point but i am concerned that when restrictions as you suggest are levied then a blanket of mediocrity will descend on any open forum...
discretion is an important tool of any reasonable law enforcement without it we would live in a world where we had no freedom at all and no opportunity to express ourselves .....
'cleaning up' the chat may make it more sterile than any of us would wish...
we are at liberty to be insulted and when we are it is a reminder that we too have the chance to be foolish and ludicrous and make mistakes and who knows maybe sometimes have fun or create something wonderful from that freedom.....
restrictions that are across the board always limit us all.....
please don't wish a totalitarian regime upon us.....
i'd rather rather be offended a couple of times than have to always spend my time discussing the best way to cut cucumber sandwiches

Sometimes people just cannot take a joke. Why don't they lighten up a bit, ok some times things are really offensive then yes they should be dealt with, but why don't alot of the people on here realise that not everyone has the same opinions. You may not agree with them but why remove them?

Well what you find offencive may just be a joke or a badly written answer. The report abuse works for me. Not everyone has command of English and they are on here to learn. Good point there but you need a bit of bad to see the good. You are in control of what you read.

A lot of people take this site far too seriously. It isn't meant to be a serious forum for sensible questions and answers -- it's degenerated into a playground. So have fun with it -- write silly/sarcastic answers to stupid questions, and occasionally serious answers to serious questions. Anyone who wants serious answers to serious questions without all the foolishness can go to a library.

i agree, a lot of the answers on yahoo answers are pointless && insulting, & the people who write them just want the points. These answers do no one any good, & often annoy the person who asked the question.
