I think that you are one off thousands of expats out there that misses home.am going home next march as i miss SA like hell.also think that allot off South Africans complain with a "wit brood" under there arms and only when you are away from home do you really appreciate South Africa.

Oh, my goodness...me! me! me!

I have been in Korea so long. I need to go home. I plan to vacation there in January but feel that's not enough.

Korea has been good for me and I could pay off a lot of debt in months where it would have taken me years in South Africa, but it's time to pack up and go home.

You wouldn't believe what I had to go through here. First I had a job at a Korean Language Academy. The guys put me up in a small one-room apartment and it was all good until my wife joined me with the kids. I moved to a bigger place, but you had to walk through the bathroom to get in the house. The academy didn't give me any increase in pay and no benefits.

I then moved to Seoul and got a high class job working at one of the oldest and most reputable private schools in Seoul. But it had lots to learn about how to treat foreigners. I waited 6 months to get a bed. Slept on the floor with my family. The bathroom was a mess and still is. The school does major construction on the buildings running into thousands of rands, but neglect to put a wash basin in my place. I have a contract that says they should provide furniture and household necessities. I got four chairs, a table and a TV. The TV broke and they gave me one that plays green and has no sound!

The principal is an assh*le and orders a new curriculum every 3 months. He decides on things and blames others when it doesn't work out. Just recently he went against us foreign teachers and bought new materials and when the program didn't work he blamed us for it. We can't argue with him, because we aren't allowed to speak in meetings.

I have to eat vegetarian every day at school, because they wanna live healthy. I got a computer only when one teacher quit when they refused to give us any. We have books that need to be taught with the help of tapes. No tapes! When we eventually got the tapes we had to wait another 4 months for a tape recorder.

I dunno anymore. The only reason why I'm still here is that my kids do really good here. My daughter is 5th grade in an American school, where she should have been in the 3rd grade. My son is 4 and he comes home with science, math, Korean and English homework. All of what he can do, mind you.

I'm fed up, but for the sake of my kids and my family in South Africa I need to stay longer. With what I make here I can give back to my mom and dad as well. They've been so good to me. It's only fair.
