Lots of things are harmful to your health that people still do. Smoking is a good example. It's just a business that makes millions of dollars...so it's worth protecting.

Basically, Indian politicians don't know their **** from their elbow! There must be something in it big time for someone to come up with this absurd idea of banning Coke, Pepsi etc. Some years ago people considered egg as bad for one's health! There was a time when India banned IBM and a few years down the road we begged them to return! The analogy is it has nothing to do with the product per se but the whimisical mind of our politicians. Kerela has put its foot down while West Bengal another communist state is not picking up the ball and running with it.
Finally, I would sooner have my life controlled by the big boys of corporate India rather than by politicians. Atleast with the former I have a choice, the freedom to accept or decline whereas with policitians no such thing exists.

Coke/ Pepsi are 'Big Guys' too & with BIG money.
Over last few decades, with systematic Ad campaign, these firms have influenced young minds so much so that being seen with a coke/ pepsi bottle in hand is considered hep. In younger circles, if you don' t go along this way of life, you would be considered 'un-fashionable' & 'outdated'.
The main factor behind the soft drinks 'success story' is 'Visibility' & 'Availability'. If fruit juices or nira were available likewise, things could change.
What we could do is try & convince our near n dear ones that drinks like Coconut water and milk are Good for Health. If as a family, we switch over, it may be easy... MAYBE

The cola companies have not been able to see the government reports on their products. Independent tests differ from the allegations brought against them.
