Without a doubt, The Beatles. I love U2, but I don't feel that there would have been a U2 if not for the Beatles..

Although I love U2, no one wrote songs like The Beatles. 30 years from now U2 will almost be forgotten, kids will still be discovering the Beatles of the first time. Everyone goes through that age where they purchase Rubber Soul or Sgt. Pepper. Hopefully they move on to find Pet Sounds from the Beach Boys, the best albumn of all time.

Since this is purely a matter of personal taste, I'll have to say U2.
This isn't a very appropriate comparison though, they're from different times and different styles. Sure they can both be called Pop-Rock, but that's a very vague description. Anyway, I never cared much for the music of the Beatles, but I do have a great deal of respect for the band members, especially Paul McCartney, for being so active in advocating Vegetarianism and Animal Rights.

PULEEEEEZ! U2 are the greatest band ever, beatles are for old grandads who survived world war 2, who want to listen to that rubbish, U2 are from a far better contry, they do much more for charity and they have much more competition, much better music, the beatles records are meant to be found covered in dust in a pentioners basement, U2 have rocked the world of music since the early 80's and still are, you can listen to your granpar music if u want but i know my preferences

Neither is better, they come from completely different eras musically. You may be able to argue who is best based on musical complexity, but other than that you can't compare the two. What people fail to understand is that U2 likes the beatles! lol!

U2 - they appear to have put a lot more thought into their songs. In my opinion, the Beatles were only as famous as they were because their act was different from the other mainstream acts at the time. Their timing and innovation brought them huge success, but I appreciate the fact that U2 wrote lyrics that made sense, did not appear drug-induced, and that make you think a little more deeply when you listen to them. Not to mention the fact that everyone in the band is extremely talented.
